Benefits of molybdenum

Although molybdenum is important for the human body, we do not need it in large quantities. Molybdenum protects our body from the accumulation of deadly toxins and sulfites.

Molybdenum in food and sources

Molybdenum is part of cereals, milk, cheese and nuts. In addition, molybdenum is found in legumes, leafy vegetables, lentils, beans, and liver. Molybdenum is also a small part of many fruits and vegetables.

Uses of molybdenum

Molybdenum is required for many physical processes. The body stores molybdenum mainly in the liver and kidneys. The mineral is a component of three enzymes. It is needed for the metabolism of nucleic acids, to promote the use of iron in the liver, and for the oxidation of carbohydrates.

Molybdenum deficiency

Molybdenum deficiency is extremely rare. Because molybdenum is found in many foods, most people will never be deficient in it. Molybdenum supplements should only be consumed for very rare medical reasons.

However, deficiencies have been observed in isolated cases and have been associated with an increased risk of ductal cancer.

Molybdenum side effects and overdose

Molybdenum overdose is also rare and has not been studied extensively. Convulsions, brain damage and hallucinations may occur. In animals, molybdenum overdose has been associated with renal insufficiency, infertility and reduced growth.
